The environment creates phenomena, which creates the artworks. Immerse yourself in these new artworks and become one with the environment.
The artworks in teamLab Phenomena do not exist independently but are created by the environment which produces the various phenomena that creates the artworks.

Objects such as stones and man-made creations maintain a stable structure independently. A stone, for instance, will remain unchanged even if placed in a sealed box, isolated from the outside world.

In contrast, a vortex in the ocean will vanish in an instant if removed from its environment. Unlike a stone, a vortex does not sustain itself; it evolves with the surrounding currents, formed by water flowing continuously from the outside to the inside and from the inside to the outside of the vortex, changing along with the flow. Moreover, the boundaries of its existence are ambiguous, and there is no material distinction between the vortex and its surroundings.

The unique environment produces the phenomena, and the environment maintains the existence of the structure. Let us call that existence Environmental Phenomena. The artwork is inseparable from the environment and changes along with the environment. This concept transcends the various conventional notions of existence by physical forms. Even if people immerse themselves physically into the artwork, the artwork will remain intact, capable of naturally restoring itself even if disrupted. However, when the environment is not sustained, the artwork will disappear. The boundaries of the artwork are ambiguous and continuous with the environment. Perhaps, people's consciousness will expand from the artwork itself to the environment beyond.

Dry Area

Morphing Continuum

Even if individual elements are separated in space and time, when a structural order appears among them, the elements transcend space and time and form a single entity. Despite significant changes in shape or size on the surface, or even if all of the elements are replaced, the single existence will be maintained. This spatiotemporal existence is part of the whole, it appears from the whole, and is returned to it. It is a living universe - a biocosmos.
Sculptural existence is born in space. It takes form on the ground as a mass and rises from the ground. Existence is born in the air, transcending the very concept of mass, and continues to exist mid-air, maintained in place. The boundaries of these existences are ambiguous, and the glowing spheres that compose them are continuously changing. Even when people fully immerse themselves in this sculpture, its existence remains intact. If broken by people, it naturally restores itself. Even if people try to move or push this floating entity, they cannot do so. Physical human actions cannot move the sculpture. 
Rather than a solid object, this sculptural entity is created by the order of energy generated by the phenomena of a unique environment. Let us call this existence High Order Sculpture. The artwork is inseparable from the environment and changes along with the environment. It transcends the conventional notions of physical objects—it sustains its existence mid-air, having ambiguous boundaries, and it is able to maintain its shape even when people immerse themselves physically into the sculpture, naturally restoring itself even if the sculpture breaks.

Levitation Void

The void that levitates in the air is not suspended by anything, nor does it have its own power. Its existence transcends the concept of mass, it levitates in the middle of the air, not on the ground or at the ceiling. At times it rises, and at times it sinks, yet remains floating in the air.At times, it starts to move and sometimes it falls to the ground. However, as if to repair its state, it slowly rises up again and remains levitating in the air.
An order of energy is generated at the center of the space by a phenomenon of a unique environment. The order of energy thus creates this sculptural entity. Let us call this existence High Order Sculpture. The artwork is inseparable from the environment and changes along with the environment. It transcends the conventional notions of physical objects—it sustains its existence mid-air, and naturally restores itself.

Spontaneous Order in Chaos

The strokes of color in this artwork do not have an overall focus; there is no guidance and no external influence. Through simple, localized interactions between color strokes and people, spontaneous order continuously emerges on its own, even as everything moves toward disorder.
Even if individual strokes are distant in space and time, when spontaneous orders appear, individual elements transcend space and time and form a single entity. Despite significant changes in shape or size on the surface, or even if the individual elements are replaced, the single existence will be maintained.This spatiotemporal existence is a part of the sea of disorder, it is swallowed by the sea, and yet continues to emerge from the disorder.Order and disorder, existence and the whole, continuously flow into one another without boundaries, as they rise and fall, collide and merge.

Light Vortex

The difference between the inside and outside of an entity such as a vortex lies in the order, not the material.Even if the elements of an artwork are separated in space and time, when an order is formed in the parts, the individual elements may be recognized as a single entity that transcends space and time.
The collection of light that flows from the outside to the inside and from the inside to the outside creates order in the central area, and a biocosmos appears.

Light Sculpture - Flow

The difference between the inside and outside of an entity such as a vortex lies in the order, not the material.Even if the elements of an artwork are separated in space and time, when an order is formed in the parts, the individual elements may be recognized as a single entity that transcends space and time.

Obverse and Reverse

The circular, colorful portal appears as a colorless white light membrane when viewed from the backside. When a person attempts to move behind it from any position, the world of colors recedes.

Absolute Front Torus

This torus always faces the front, whether observed from the side or from below. The torus that you're looking at facing forward is simultaneously facing forward to another viewer standing elsewhere.
This torus exists as a torus within the viewer's cognitive world. We refer to such artworks that exist in the perceived world as Cognitive Sculpture. When it exists within perception, it is considered to exist.

Wind Form

Artwork of the wind.The flow is influenced by the shape of the space and the presence of people, and it continuously interacts with and transforms in relation to all other flows in the artwork space. The flow is a continuum of countless interacting particles, and lines are drawn by the trajectories of these particles.

Biocosmos

The movement of hundreds of thousands of birds is beautiful and mysterious, like a single, giant life form.
Even if each individual element is separated in space and time, when there is order among them, the individual elements may be recognized as a single entity that transcends space and time. Despite significant changes in shape or size on the surface, or even if the elements are replaced, this single existence will be maintained, and be recognized as the same entity. This spatiotemporal existence differs from physical matter, and will open up new possibilities of existence. This artwork portrays this spatiotemporal existence.

Circulating Universe of Water Particles

The flow is influenced by the shape of the space and the presence of people, and it continuously interacts with and transforms with all the other flows in the artwork space. The flow is considered as a continuum of countless interacting particles, and lines are drawn by the trajectories of these particles. 
This artwork is not an illusion of space; the artwork space exists as it is in the space where people's bodies are, and the space is covered by the flow.

Flutter of Butterflies

Flutters of butterflies appear from the ground and the walls where people touch.Through the simple interactions among the butterflies, a part of the artwork continues to create spontaneous order even as the entire flutter moves in disorder.
This piece is called Flutter of Butterflies. However, it is not an illusion of space; instead, the space of the artwork exists as it is in the space where people’s bodies are, filling the space with butterflies.

Graffiti Nature and Beating Earth

Graffiti Nature is an ecosystem of creatures drawn by people.
Color in a creature on the paper provided, and see the picture you have drawn come to life and move in front of you.Living things eat and and are eaten by other living things in one shared ecosystem. The creatures you draw will multiply if they eat other living things, but they will die and disappear if they do not eat enough, or if they are eaten by other creatures.
The crocodiles eat the snakes, the snakes eat the lizards, the lizards eat the frogs, and the frogs eat the butterflies, each one propagating as a result. Likewise, the butterflies multiply in places where flowers grow. Although flowers will bloom if people stay still, their petals will scatter if people walk around and step on them. The crocodiles will die if people step on them too much. Living creatures spread throughout the world, increasing and decreasing in number. The creatures you have drawn may be increasing somewhere.
Beating Earth is this artwork space. In a complex, three-dimensional space, perception based on common sense is separated from perception based on the body, and the space appears to move.
At times, the waterfall that flows down becomes Sketch Waterfall Droplets. This waterfall is made up of the droplets that everyone has drawn.Freely color in a droplet on the paper provided. Your drawing will then turn into droplets that flow along the terrain. Eventually, they will mix with droplets drawn by other people in the waterfall.A single droplet bounces off like a ball, but when there are many of them together, they behave like water. When the droplets break apart, they start behaving like balls again.A single water molecule does not become liquid. In order to become liquid water, many water molecules need to gather together.Water molecules act like magnets, so they connect with each other and form clusters of water molecules (water clusters). Water clusters have an extremely short lifespan and are thought to be constantly being created and destroyed. In other words, they have a very dynamic structure. This allows water to change into various shapes.Most objects and living things in this world have properties as a whole that are more than the simple sum of the properties of their parts.

Autonomous Abstraction

Autonomous abstraction.Each dot of light blinks and changes color in cycles unique to each dot. A spontaneous order phenomenon occurs between dots that are close to each other, and their cycle of hues and the rhythm at which they blink gradually synchronize. When people touch them, the rhythm of the blinking hues change and are randomized, but the dots close to each other once again cause a spontaneous order phenomenon between them.The dots of lights emit a tone each time they blink. The tones can be heard continuously throughout the space; what sounds like music is solely created by the continuous tones produced by the blinking lights.People move freely. Depending on their behavior, the dots take on a variety of colors and rhythms, but it is the simple local interactions between the dots that create a time structure, continually bringing order to the colors and rhythm to the entire artwork.
A spontaneous order phenomenon occurs when different rhythms influence each other and synchronize. Examples include when the pendulums of two clocks gradually begin to swing together; when many fireflies gather in one tree and all start blinking at the same time, creating a larger light as a whole; or when the cells that make up the heart synchronize and tremble simultaneously to create the pulse of the heart. This can be seen in various systems, from physical phenomena, neurophysiology, to ecosystems. 

Water Area

Massless Amorphous Sculpture

The only material substances present in this space are ordinary soap, water, and air. The bubbles are soap bubbles.
This floating, immense sculpture emerges from a sea of bubbles, transcending the very concept of mass. It neither sinks to the ground nor rises completely to the ceiling, but instead drifts in the middle of the space. The contours of its existence are ambiguous—it fragments into smaller pieces, but merges into a larger mass. Even when people fully immerse themselves in this sculpture, its existence remains intact. If broken by people, it naturally restores itself. However, when the sculpture is destroyed beyond what it can repair, it collapses, unable to recover. Even if people try to move or push this floating sculpture, they cannot do so, and if they stir up wind, the sculpture disperses entirely. Physical human actions cannot move the sculpture.

By filling the space with soap bubbles, a distinct environment is created in which an order of energy is born. By doing so, a massive form emerges from this sea of bubbles that floats steadily in mid-air.

Continuous Trajectories in Flux and Form

Continuous trajectories fill up the space, becoming a three-dimensional form. The places where it is drawn are in constant flux, and the form of its existence transforms.
When people become one with the artwork, viewers see them existing as part of the world of the artwork. Likewise, when viewers themselves become one with the artwork, they are also seen as existing as part of the artwork’s world when observed by other viewers. 
Multiple viewpoints are placed within the space of the artwork, and the space around the viewpoints is cut out and flattened using Ultrasubjective Space. When this flat surface is placed in the exhibition space in the same relative position as the viewpoints, the exhibition space is superimposed with the world of the artwork. The viewer's viewpoint is not fixed, and they can look not only left and right but also in the depth direction, moving freely in all directions, exploring a physical perception in which the whole body is immersed in the world of the artwork.When the viewer sees other people overlapping with the artwork through the screen, for the viewer, it becomes equivalent to those people existing not only in the exhibition space but also in the space of the artwork world, making other people part of the artwork.

Floating Microcosms

This is a series from teamLabBall (2009-) featuring soft and flexible sculptures that relate to people’s bodies, sculptures that change the relationship between people and the space through the influence of people's behavior, and spatial sculptures with ambiguous boundaries.
When an Ovoid is pushed by a person, or swayed by the waves, the Ovoid falls back and then rises, releasing a resonating tone. The Ovoids around it also respond one after another, emitting color, and a sound tone that continues to resonate.
The space of the artwork is interactively transformed under the influence of the behavior of the people in the space, making the environment and the people a part of the work. This allows the artwork and people, the self and others, to continue without boundaries.
The Ovoids can change into a total of 32 newly-defined Solidified Light Colors.

The Accumulation of Time

The water level in the space changes over time, altering the shape of the land as time progresses.
Eventually, the land becomes covered by water, blurring the boundaries between people’s bodies and the artwork. One’s self, other people, and the artwork become continuous entities, exploring a continuous cognition between us and the world.

Megaliths in the Roots Garden

These megaliths appear in various locations around the world, their spacetime is interconnected. 
The roots of the trees growing in the surrounding area continue directly down to the bottom floor. The floor below is an environment where roots are able to grow even in the air.
Research has shown that forests connect through a network of mycorrhizal fungi, allowing trees to recognize and share nutrients with each other. While the roots in this unique environment can grow without soil, they cannot form mycorrhizal networks. Because there is no soil the space appears visually open, but for the roots, they are in a closed state. Trees in urban areas are similarly in a closed state. Additionally, long-lived pines such as bonsai and those commonly seen in gardens are absent from natural forests, as they cannot thrive within the rich mycorrhizal networks of natural forests. Long-lived pines in gardens and bonsai coexist with humans. Similarly, trees selected for urban areas also coexist within the city's network with humans.

Waterfall of Light Particles

This artwork is a series based on a waterfall in the mountains of Shikoku, Waterfall of Light Particles - Deep in the Mountains of Shikoku (2016-2017).The shining particles cascade down, appearing to draw lines in space. From the combination of these lines, this artwork is born.
The consistent shining white lines of the waterfall are made up of individual segments of colorful light. 

Lamp Tea House

A tea house surrounded by water and floating lamps.

When a cup of tea is made, a work of art is born. The tea as a whole does not change color, but the colors, which have a temporal structure, change within it.

The tea interacts with nearby tea and lamps, creating a temporal structure throughout the entire artwork space. You drink a part of that order.

Floating Lamps in Spontaneous Order

Each Floating Lamp on the water glows with its own rhythm. Over time they mutually influence nearby lamps and Tea in Spontaneous Order, starting a spontaneous order phenomenon, and the rhythms of their flickering become closer to each other. When people push the lamps, their rhythm changes. Then, again a spontaneous order occurs with nearby lamps and Tea in Spontaneous Order.
Each time the lamp glows, it emits a tone. The only sound that resonates in the space is the sequence of sounds, and the overall tone of the space is formed by the sequence of the tones of the flickering.
The lamps take on various rhythms depending on people's behavior, but a time structure is created by the simple localized interaction between the lamps and Tea in Spontaneous Order, and order continues to be created throughout the work.
The spontaneous order phenomenon is when different rhythms influence each other and become aligned. The pendulums of two pendulum clocks hanging on a wall gradually become aligned. When many fireflies gather in a tree, they gradually begin to flash at the same time, creating a larger accumulated light. The cells that make up the heart pulsate in unison, synchronizing with each other to produce heartbeats. This is seen in a wide variety of systems, including physical phenomena, neurophysiology, life systems, and ecosystems.

Tea in Spontaneous Order - Dynamic Steady State Color

When a cup of tea is made, Tea in Spontaneous Order glows and produces a tone with its own rhythm.Tea in Spontaneous Order interacts with nearby Tea in Spontaneous Order and the Floating Lamps, causing a spontaneous order phenomenon, in which the flickering rhythms converge.The artwork is born when the tea is made, and disappears when the tea is drunk.
The color of the tea as a whole does not change; that is, when viewed from a distance, it remains the same color, but inside the tea the color is constantly changing, and this color has a time structure.
Through simple local interactions between Tea in Spontaneous Order and the nearby Tea in Spontaneous Order and Floating Lamps, a time structure is created throughout the entire space of the artwork. Drink part of the order that has been formed.

Cognitive Solidified Spark

* Location: Inside Sketch FactoryWe do not perceive the world we see, we see the world we perceive.
Spheres made of accumulated rays of light.The thin red light radiates from the center in infinite fine rays, creating its spherical shape. The light source remains motionless, yet the countless lines emitting from it wriggle continuously.
The spheres have no surface boundary, and the perception of the boundary between the artwork and the body is ambiguous. When you try to touch a sphere, your hand goes into the sphere as it does not have a physical boundary. 
What is this sphere? Why do the rays of lines wriggle?Our world is within us.
And if we perceive these spheres made of accumulated lines, the world we perceive will expand, and we may see the spheres of accumulated lines in our daily lives. As the world you perceive changes, the way you see the world goes on to change.

Entrance

Ceiling of Darkness

A ceiling made of darkness.
Its existence is not the reason we can see it. The focus of our eyes produces the perception of existence which we see. In other words, you are not seeing the ceiling of darkness. The continuous focus of the viewer creates the ceiling of darkness in the cognitive world, and that is what you are seeing.The recognition of existence is created from the viewer’s ability to continuously maintain their focus.
The ceiling of darkness exists in the viewer's cognitive world. We call artworks that exist in the cognitive world, but not in the physical world, Cognitive Sculptures. Existence in the cognitive world makes the artwork come into existence.

Living Crystallized Light

Even if you place your hand inside the artwork, it does not break, and its existence is maintained. You realize that the artwork is just ordinary water. The artwork does not exist by itself; the distinctive phenomenon created by the unique environment is the existence of the artwork.The artwork is freed from physical matter. Everyday substances like air, water, and light become phenomena through the unique environment, and these phenomena constitute the existence of the artwork. The artwork is inseparable from the environment and changes along with it. It transcends the various notions of existence through physical objects. Even if the artwork breaks, it is repaired. Conversely, if the environment is not maintained, the artwork will disappear. The outlines of the artwork's existence are ambiguous, and it is continuous with the environment. Perhaps, people's consciousness will spread from the artwork itself to the environment.
When the viewer moves, the location and color of the artwork change. The artwork seen by the viewer is visible only to that viewer. For the person next to them, the artwork is in a different location and has a different color. In other words, the artwork being seen does not exist in the physical world but exists in the viewer's cognitive world. We refer to such artworks that exist in the perceived world as Cognitive Sculpture. When it exists within perception, it is considered to exist.
